Subject: Tyre Scam
Good Afternoon All,
Please see an e-mail received from Holden in Norwich relating to a current tyre ordering scam.
This exact scam was prevalent in London a few years ago and many people were caught out so please be aware of anyone asking to order parts or tyres using an over the phone credit card authorisation.
Kind Regards
-------
Hello All,
I have just taken a call from a "customer" asking for a full set of four tyres, supplied only!
The general structure of the call was out of the ordinary and thus roused suspicion. I managed to buy a bit of time to investigate, taking a contact name and mobile number to which when I tried to call it back, the number was not recognised.
The Name used was Stuart, the Number given was 07969 200252.
In light of a recently circulated email, it appears that we could very well have been a victim of fraud.
Please find below a copy of the earlier message, which I originally discarded due to the affected areas being Oxfordshire and Bedfordshire but when I spoke to WST, I asked if this sounded familiar and they have had a similar enquiry from the Great Yarmouth area.
----
Dear all,
Please be advised that our BDMs have come across reports of 'tyre thieves' operating in the Oxfordshire and Bedfordshire area.
It appears that they ring up a Dealer asking for a set of expensive tyres to be fitted and pay by stolen credit card. They then ring back explaining they are busy and will come down and collect the tyres instead - the credit card company later rejects the payment and they get away with the tyres.
